The Christmas party is an ideal time when the employees in the company can stop dealing with only work duties and can experience something together that will give them a topic to talk about other than work. So how do you plan an event that will be remembered a few days after? And not just because of a hangover?
Avoid the classic "food + speech + home"
A company Christmas party should not smell like a work speech. People want an experience, not just a sandwich and the obligatory round of applause after the director's speech. Add interaction, atmosphere and fun. A musical performance or other non-reactive program will keep your colleagues busy for a while, but it certainly won't provide you with a topic to talk about for the whole evening. So bet on something more interactive - a magician, a rum tasting, an escape game or maybe making Christmas cookies.
Include an activity that brings people together
Remember, you're best looking for something that gets the energy going but doesn't embarrass anyone. Treasure hunt or escape game is ideal - works indoors, outdoors, for small and large teams. In addition, it will enhance cooperation, laughter and friendly banter. And that's better than a gift pack with promotional items.
Create a story
Christmas + Mystery = Jackpot. Instead of "here's a raffle" you'd rather say "The poinsettia has been stolen, save the party!" Storytelling makes the program an experience.
Think of different types of people
Extroverts want to compete, introverts want meaningful activity and space. A good game or magician can get everyone involved. It is best to combine the program so that everyone finds their own way or to vary the activity every year.
End the party with a fair atmosphere
Music, a photo booth, a drink or a quiet chill zone - so that everyone can find something for themselves.
